What You'll Work On
Learn to read complex whitewater like a pro — identifying lines, hazards and the safest routes through Class III–IV rapids (with optional V) on one of the world's most dynamic rivers.
Nail the moves that define modern freestyle paddling. With countless laps on the Zambezi's legendary waves and holes, progression is fast and conditions are perfect.
Combine technical skill with flow — running the Zambezi clean while picking off every playspot along the way. This is what high-performance paddling looks like.
Your paddling on camera, reviewed with the coaches. Identify what's holding you back and get direct feedback to accelerate your improvement day by day.
Limited spots mean maximum coach attention. Every session is tailored to your level and goals — no generic coaching, just focused, personal progression.
Beyond coaching — this is an adventure. Local culture, wildlife, breathtaking scenery and the bond of a tight-knit group pushing each other to new levels.
The Coaches
Coach · Red Bull Athlete · Paddler of the Year 2024
Adrian Mattern has been exploring the world with his kayak for more than a decade — traveling to dozens of countries and countless rivers, always searching for the best whitewater. Ever since his first trip to the Zambezi in 2018, he came back every single season, accumulating days and days on this river he immediately fell in love with. And still is, more than ever.
Coach · Swiss Kayak Federation
Fabian Tandler has spent the past decade chasing rivers around the world, yet the Zambezi kept drawing him back year after year. After a season coaching with Worldclass Kayak Academy, he chose to focus on building his life in Switzerland — where he coaches university students and is actively involved in developing the next generation of youth kayak instructors alongside the Swiss Kayak Federation.
Itinerary
The following itinerary is a guideline — the real schedule is shaped by how the group feels, the water levels, and what stretches of river we want to explore that day. Flexibility is part of the experience.
Arrival in Livingstone or Victoria Falls Airport. Transport to accommodation. Sort out kayaks for day one. Welcome dinner together.
Depending on the group and conditions: Rapids 1–14, 10–21, or 20–25. Ease in, find the rhythm of the river and the team.
Explore Livingstone — visit the local market, book a sunset cruise, or simply recover by the pool.
Deeper into the coaching program. By now the group is in the flow — time to work on specific goals, technique, and confidence.
A proper break from the water. Optional one or two-day safari — an unforgettable add-on to the paddling experience.
Continue the safari, or return to the river for another day of coaching and progression.
Final days on the water. If the group feels up for it, one of these can become an overnight trip — camping by the river for the full expedition experience.
Transport to Livingstone or Victoria Falls Airport. Time to say goodbye — until next year.
Where You'll Stay
Whenever we come to Zambia, we stay at Jollyboys Backpackers in Livingstone. The team there is incredibly welcoming, the bar serves great food, and the pool is perfect for cooling off after a day on the river.
It's conveniently located with several restaurants in town just a short walk away. Accommodation options range from camping and dorm beds to private single, twin, or double rooms — including en-suite choices.
Prefer something upscale?
For a quieter, more upscale stay, we're happy to arrange alternatives like The David Livingstone Safari Lodge & Spa, Avani Victoria Falls Resort, Waterfront Livingstone, or Radisson Blu Mosi-oa-Tunya. Just let us know your preference.
